Cavaliers INSIDER
Wally Szczerbiak still believes in the Orlando Magic. Szczerbiak, getting settled back in New York, thinks the Magic can build on Tuesday's Game 3 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in The Finals and take down the Lakers like they took down the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals.
The Magic trail in the best-of-seven series, 2-1.
"There's no question I think they can pull out the series," Szczerbiak said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "They lost the first two games on the road. They have to take care of the home court. These next two games are going to be crucial, and then they have to try to steal one in L.A.
"Orlando is a very good Basketball team. They're very deep. They're very resilient. They come at you with a lot of guys. It's going to be interesting to see how the series unfolds."
Szczerbiak, who will become an unrestricted free agent July 1, said rest was helping him recover from the Cavs' season that ended prematurely, but he has been studying The Finals.
"I'm watching The Finals and trying to see what Orlando is doing, what L.A. is doing to stop them," he said. "The truth of the matter is, we scored a lot of points. But their shooting percentages and scoring upwards of 100 points a game against us was not the way we played the whole regular season. We were built on our defense, and we couldn't figure out a way to slow them down and stop them, which was the reason they beat us in the series."
Szczerbiak will take part in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament July 17-19 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Nev. The 54-hole tournament, which benefits the Lance Armstrong Foundation, features 75 sports stars and entertainers, including Michael Jordan, Dan Marino and Tony Romo. Szczerbiak, who owns a 4 handicap, finished tied for 26th last year.
