Stopping James consumes Pistons

Stopping James consumes Pistons
AUBURN HILLS -- Detroit Pistons guard Will Bynum says one defender is not enough against the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James.

"We got to be more together," he said Sunday, a day after the Pistons returned home from a 102-84 Game 1 whipping in the first-round playoff series. They will play Game 2 on Tuesday at Cleveland.

"It's not going to take one person to stop LeBron. It's going to take all five of us, and maybe the coaching staff -- and the bench. We got to do what we got to do to stop the guy and try to make other players beat us."

James, Cleveland's small forward and big star, had 38 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the first game of the series.

The Pistons plan to answer with more aggressive play at the point of attack, in the post, in trap situations and plan to keep James out of the lane more often, too. The Cavaliers had just four turnovers, and James didn't have any.

"What we have to do is be more aggressive at whatever we try to take away," Detroit coach Michael Curry said. "We got to be aggressive with it. If we trap him, we have to be more aggressive. If we try to contain him and make him shoot contested jumpers, we got to do exactly that.

"We have to keep him out of the paint. He was 8-of-9 in the paint, hit the half-court shot and then was

4-of-10 outside of the paint. That's where we got to try and keep him."

Curry said a review of the game tape showed several things the Pistons could do better in Game 2, especially regarding James.

"We didn't have LeBron's (isolations) or post-ups good enough," he said. "We got to do a much better job of that, and get the ball out of his hands and make some of those other players make plays."

Rasheed Wallace said the Pistons planned to forget the first game, and just play harder, especially on defense and in dealing with James.

"Knuckling up, bottom line," he said. "Nothing special. No tricks added or nothing. Just straight up knuckling up."

Wallace expects the team to respond, especially the veterans who have been behind in several playoff series in recent years. He also expects better defense, the team's calling card in recent years.

"We ain't scared or nothing like that man," Wallace said. "Stop that. We are just going to go out there and do us. Just do us."

Tayshaun Prince, who has sore ribs suffered in the last regular-season game, practiced Sunday. He will remain among the players who take on the James assignment during the game. He played almost 38 minutes in Game 1, but had just four points, two assists and one rebound.
