Female official: Violet Palmer will become coordinator of women's Basketball officials for the West Coast Conference and continue to officiate in the NBA, where she has worked for 12 seasons. Palmer became the first woman to officiate a major U.S. professional sport when she made her NBA debut on Oct. 31, 1997. She has spent the last 12 seasons in the NBA, and officiated four playoff games and more than 700 regular season games. She also worked in the CBA and WNBA.

Barkley speaks: TNT analyst Charles Barkley, also a former 76er, gave the team his advice on who should be the next coach. "I think Eddie Jordan would be a fine choice," Barkley said. The Hall of Famer also said he is still not gambling after being sued by a Las Vegas casino for $400,000 in unpaid markers, but he might again someday. Barkley, who was arrested for DUI on New Year's Eve, said he's drinking, but not drinking and driving. "I like to drink. I haven't missed the gambling to be honest with you. I needed to take a break from gambling because I was losing," he said. Barkley said he has missed making bets during football season. "I'm going to start gambling again whenever I get ready, to be honest with you. I like to gamble," he said.
