
Jason Kidd has passed Magic Johnson for No. 3 on the NBA's career assist list.
With his 14th assist in Dallas on Sunday, Kidd hit 10,142 for his career. The milestone came on a dish to Josh Howard for an 18-footer with a minute left in the second quarter of a game against Phoenix. Kidd received a standing ovation when it was announced. Among those on their feet: broadcaster Mark Jackson, who is No. 2 on the list with 10,334.
Kidd finished the game with 20 assists.
John Stockton is the record-holder with 15,806.
BYNUM HAS 'OUTSIDE CHANCE' TO RETURN TO Lakers THIS WEEK
Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson said that there's an "outside chance" Andrew Bynum could return to the team's lineup this week.
Bynum has been out since tearing a right knee ligament on Jan. 31 at Memphis.
The third-year center has been working out and will do so again today, but Jackson said that Bynum won't travel with the team to Sacramento for its game Tuesday.

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut will miss the last five games of the season with a lingering back injury. The team said the former top draft pick should be at full strength for the start of training camp. ... Cavaliers starting forward Anderson Varejao missed Sunday's game against San Antonio with a bruised right wrist. Rookie Darnell Jackson made his first career start in place of Varejao, who is averaging 8.7 points and 7.1 rebounds and had played in all 76 games this season. ... Minnesota rookie Kevin Love sat out Sunday's game against Denver with flu-like symptoms.

Georgia's men's golf team opened with a 7-over 295 and is in a tie for 10th place at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Atlanta. Florida was one shot back in a tie for 11th, and Florida State shot 302 for 13th place after the first round. ...
