Cleveland Cavaliers Roster Report 2008-09-12

Cleveland Cavaliers Roster Report 2008-09-12
DRAFT PICKS:

J.J. Hickson, F, 6-9, 242, North Carolina State -- Athletic forward who is as raw as they come. He's extremely long and will eventually block shots and score in the paint.

Darnell Jackson, F, 6-8, 250, Kansas -- Hard-working big man who bangs around the basket. He's one of five Kansas players who were drafted.

Sasha Kaun, C, 6-11, 250, Kansas -- He's signed to a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow in Russia. The Cavs will hold his rights. He's a skilled big man who can score and rebound.

PLAYER NOTES:

--G Mo Williams will wear No. 2 with the Cavs. His former No. 25 is retired and hanging in the rafters at Quicken Loans Arena (Mark Price).

--Two former Cavs players have found new homes. F Donyell Marshall has agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, while G/F Devin Brown signed a two-year, $2.1 million deal with the New Orleans Hornets. Many thought when Marshall was waived by Oklahoma City, it signaled the end of his 14-year career. However, the Sixers are hoping he can fill the role of a three-point shooter.

--Don't be sucked into the Zach Randolph-to-Cleveland rumors. The Cavs did talk to the Knicks recently, but not about the former Michigan State prospect. There's no question Randolph puts up numbers, but he's not much of a team player. The player the Cavs inquired about is reportedly F David Lee. Rumor has it that the Knicks won't trade him unless the opposing team takes a bad contract like Randolph, Eddy Curry or Jerome James.
