--Former Cavs players are signing contracts elsewhere as the summer wears on. F-C Ben Wallace and F-C Joe Smith signed one-year contracts for $1.3 million with Detroit and Atlanta, respectively. There is talk that G-F Wally Szczerbiak might sign with Denver.
--Northeast Ohio fans will likely get their first peek at C Shaquille O'Neal in a Cavaliers uniform at the sixth annual Wine & Gold Scrimmage. The University of Akron's Rhodes Arena will host the intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 3 at noon. It will be the first opportunity to see the 7-foot-1, 325-pound O'Neal, who was sent to the Cavs in a three-player trade in late June from Phoenix. QUOTE TO NOTE: "Leon is a high-quality player and person. His tough, gritty play has already contributed in big playoff games during his young career. As he continues to work rehabilitating his injury, we would look to hopefully see him return toward the end of the season." -- Cavs GM Danny Ferry, on the signing of F Leon Powe.
