--Cavs GM Danny Ferry has a great deal of admiration for Suns GM Steve Kerr. That's one of the reasons they could make a deal of the magnitude of the Shaquille O'Neal trade.
"Steve is a good friend and we trust each other," Ferry said. "Through negotiations, we laugh a lot. At the end of the day, we're both competitive people. You have to have a level of trust. I trust Steve and he trusts me. Hopefully, this deal works out for their organization and for us. It's important for me that that could happen." Ferry and Kerr were teammates with the Cavs.
--The Cavs were originally going to deal their 46th pick in Thursday's draft to Phoenix in the C Shaquille O'Neal trade. But the NBA office wouldn't let them trade that pick. So the Cavs substituted their second-round pick in 2010 and protected it through 40 picks.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I am elated with the trade. I'll get to play with one of the greatest players to ever play the game in LeBron James. ... They had a damn good team without me. Hopefully, we can get it done." -- C Shaquille O'Neal, talking with ESPN about coming to the Cavs
