--If the Cavs eventually sign G Delonte West and second-round pick F Darnell Jackson, that will give them 15 players under contract for the 2008-09 season. But there's definitely some wiggle room. G Eric Snow and the Cavs are waiting on a decision on a possible injury settlement where he would retire. Also, G Billy Thomas and C Lance Allred are under contract for this season, but neither have any guaranteed dollars. The rest of the roster looks like this: G Mo Williams, G Daniel Gibson, G/F Wally Szczerbiak, G/F Sasha Pavlovic and G Tarence Kinsey, F LeBron James, F J.J. Hickson, F/C Ben Wallace, F/C Anderson Varejao and C Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
--Dan Fegan, the agent for Cavs F/C Anderson Varejao and traded F Joe Smith (Oklahoma City), has sold his practice to Blue Entertainment Sports Television. He will now join forces with fellow agent Bill Strickland to make BEST one of the most prominent firms in the country. The two agents will now represent Smith, Shawn Marion, Jason Richardson, Troy Murphy, Jason Terry, Nene, Kenyon Martin, Rasheed Wallace, Corey Brewer and Joakim Noah, among others. The only basketball firm with more clients is Wasserman Media Group, which had previously bought the practice of Arn Tellem. Some big-name agents will be working under the same corporate umbrella and will be able to utilize its size to broker deals in the U.S. and worldwide. --G Delonte West would likely be a base-year compensation player if he were included in a sign-and-trade (where the Cavs could only take back half of his salary in a deal). West would become a base-year if his new salary is more than 120 percent of his prior salary ($1.9 million), which is likely. However, the Cavs would like for him to return to the club.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It leaves Delonte exactly where he was before. The only difference is instead of paying $4 million to Damon Jones (who was traded to Milwaukee), they are now paying $8.5 million to Mo Williams. (Williams and West) are both points guards and I don't think Delonte is concerned with that. The financial situation remains the same, and so does our position: Either offer Delonte a more favorable contract or he may opt to just sign his qualifying offer. The ball is still in their court. It definitely shows why they haven't been in any hurry to get things done." -- Aaron Goodwin, agent for Delonte West after the Cavs acquired G Mo Williams from Milwaukee.
