--G Delonte West lost a great deal of leverage when the Cavs traded for G Mo Williams. GM Danny Ferry said the Cavs still want to sign West, a player they've coveted since he left St. Joseph's University. If West is re-signed, his role will undoubtedly change. He could possibly start at shooting guard or get backup minutes at point guard. It's conceivable the Cavs could execute a sign-and-trade, but the plan right now is to hang onto him. West will likely accept the $2.8 million qualifying offer and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Some think the Cavs wouldn't mind that happening.
--G Mo Williams had surgery on his right thumb in New York in May and also had sports hernia surgery this summer. --If the Cavs eventually sign G Delonte West and second-round pick F Darnell Jackson, that will give them 15 players under contract for the 2008-09 season. But there's definitely some wiggle room. G Eric Snow and the Cavs are waiting on a decision on a possible injury settlement where he would retire. Also, G Billy Thomas and C Lance Allred are under contract for this season, but neither have any guaranteed dollars. The rest of the roster looks like this: G Mo Williams, G Daniel Gibson, G/F Wally Szczerbiak, G/F Sasha Pavlovic and G Tarence Kinsey, F LeBron James, F J.J. Hickson, F/C Ben Wallace, F/C Anderson Varejao and C Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "The way I play, and the gifts that I have, it's better suited to Cleveland. Playing with a facilitator (like LeBron James) will (help) my game. In Milwaukee, they were looking for a distributor. That didn't play to my strength." -- Cavs guard Mo Williams, on playing with LeBron James.
