Young forward J.J. Hickson has been up and down since moving into the starting lineup Nov. 6 in New York. The Cavs, though, have recorded an 11-2 record since the switch. The 6-foot-9, 242-pounder likes getting feedback from the coaches. "When they don't talk to you, that's when you start worrying," Hickson said. "As long as they tell you the positives or negatives, you're good."
Hickson, 21, broke out of a mini-slump in the blowout win over Phoenix on Wednesday with 13 points and eight rebounds. He made six of seven shots from the floor. He'd averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in the previous three games.
"I had a few games where I struggled," Hickson said. "That's going to happen.
"(Wednesday) night I was more relaxed and let the game come to me. You have to play through it."
When center Shaquille O'Neal returned to the starting lineup two games ago, teams couldn't key on Hickson any longer.
"The last couple games, I had trouble finding my niche," he said. "Shaq was out. With him coming back, I've had to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.
"I didn't have to change my game. I had to adjust my game to Shaq's game."
CAVS 101, BULLS 87: During one break in the action, LeBron James was movin' and groovin' to the music. That image apparently made the Chicago Bulls' blood boil. The Cavs' tap-danced all over the Bulls at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday.
The teams got a bit snippy in the fourth quarter. With James at the free-throw line with 6:00 to play, he was chirping with Bulls center Joakim Noah, who was sitting on the bench. James walked toward the Bulls bench and was assessed a technical foul.
"When you're losing the way you're losing and guys are rubbing it in your face, dancing and all that... I have a lot of respect for LeBron," Noah said. "It's just a frustrating situation."
James said it wasn't about being disrespectful toward the Bulls. He said the Cavs are just having fun.
"It's nothing against Joakim or the Bulls," James said. "This is nothing new. We have fun playing basketball. It's nothing about showboating. It happened all last year."
The victory avenged one of the Cavs' two losses at The Q this season. The Bulls (7-10) prevailed over the Cavs, 86-85, on Nov. 5.
The Cavs (14-5) have now won 11 of their last 13 and their last six at home.
James led all scorers with 23 points, 11 assists and six rebounds. He made 8-of-17 shots from the field. Guards Mo Williams and Daniel Gibson each fired in 15 points. Gibson's total was a season high.
The difference in the game was turnovers. The Cavs had 11 turnovers in the first half, zero in the second.
"None of us were proud of the way we played in the second quarter (eight turnovers)," James said. "We were getting stops, but we were turning the ball over."
