Forward/center Anderson Varejao found himself in an unusual position the past two games -- the starting lineup.
The 6-foot-11, 260-pounder had started 23 games in his career before getting the nod on Friday against Philadelphia. It was his first start of the season, and he was back on the floor for the start of Saturday's game at Atlanta. In his two games as starter, Varejao has averaged 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 block. He has also shot 60 percent from the field (12-for-20).
Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas is expected to miss at least a week after he sprained his left ankle. The Cavs are unsure on Ilgauskas' timetable, but they probably won't rush him back.
HAWKS 97, CAVALIERS 92: Atlanta stopped Cleveland's 11-game winning streak on Saturday at Philips Arena.
It was the fifth time in Cavs history they had won 11 games in a row. On each occasion, they lost the next game.
"This means we'll have to start another one," Cavs guard Mo Williams said. "When one streak ends, another one starts."
Hawks guard Joe Johnson's baseline jumper over Williams with 1 minute, 40 seconds to play proved to be the game-winner.
Mo Williams and Delonte West each missed 3-point attempts on the Cavs' final possession, which would have tied the score.
Hawks forward Marvin Williams was fouled while he grabbed the rebound on West's misfire. He made both free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining for the five-point margin.
At that point, the Philips Arena crew started playing, "Hit the Road Jack."
The winning streak was over.
"I didn't care we had a winning streak or not, I just wanted to win," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. "The loss hurts no matter what the winning streak was."
Cleveland hadn't lost since Nov. 19 in Detroit. The Cavs started their 11-game streak against the Hawks on Nov. 22 at Quicken Loans Arena. They didn't trail in the second half of any game during the streak.
Johnson had 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter.
LeBron James led all scorers with 33 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals. Mo Williams added 26 points and three assists.
