Cavs power forward Ben Wallace, suffering from back spasms, received medical clearance to play on Sunday against Philadelphia. But coach Mike Brown put his foot down.
"He's cleared to play," Brown said. "His back checked out fine. I'm not playing him." Brown said he wants to be conservative with the veteran forward, who has now missed three of the last four games.
In the one game he did play during that span, he left in the third quarter after getting tangled up with Pistons forward Antonio McDyess on a lob pass.
His back immediately tightened up and he left the game with 9:05 left in the third.
"When I got bumped, me and 'Dice' got tangled up," he said. "I landed on my heels, and that didn't help. When I ran down the floor, it started tightening up a bit."
He was playing well in Detroit with six points, five rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes.
"I had my lift back," Wallace said. "I had my legs under me. I felt pretty good. I blocked a couple shots."
CAVS 91, SIXERS 88: The Cavs got a major lift on Sunday from point guard Delonte West, who had 18 points, a season-high 11 assists, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the Cavs' victory.
West buried two three-pointers in the final 2 minutes, 28 seconds remaining to help the Cavs (41-33) snap a three-game losing streak. His second long-range shot knotted the score at 88 with 1:13 to play.
LeBron James, who led all scorers with 26 points, nine assists and nine rebounds, followed with a drive to the basket for a 90-88 advantage. It proved to be the game-winning shot with 19.3 seconds remaining.
Veteran forward Joe Smith split two free throws with 6.1 seconds left for a 91-88 lead.
The Sixers (37-37), who came into the game having won 19 of their last 25, set up for a three-point shot. Forward Andre Iguodala, who paced the Sixers with 19 points, was defended by James.
With the way the Cavs' luck has been going as of late, coach Mike Brown worried that Iguodala's shot would force overtime.
"Part of me thought it could have gone in," Brown said. "LeBron did a heck of a job getting through the screen and contesting Iguodala's shot."
Iguodala's 25-foot attempt bounced off the front of the rim as time expired.
