Guard Mo Williams made his debut with the Cavs on Tuesday in Boston. Sometimes it wasn't pretty.
He didn't seem to mesh with LeBron James at all. Instead of running the offense, Williams fired up shots. He had just two assists in the game. "We looked like we were searching at times on offense," Williams said. "We had a chance to win."
Williams said at the time it wouldn't take long for things to come together. On Thursday in the home opener, Williams had 17 points and seven assists in the Cavs' 96-79 victory over Charlotte.
Coach Mike Brown said Williams will be fine.
"We look at this as a journey," Brown said. "Hopefully, we'll gel and get better sooner than later."
Williams committed four turnovers in the opener. Twice he had the ball stolen from him by Celtics guard Rajon Rondo.
He had just one miscue Thursday, and helped spark the Cavs' defensive effort that held the Bobcats to just 34-percent shooting.
CAVALIERS 96, BOBCATS 79: Cavs guard Daniel Gibson had an unbelievable shooting night in the home opener.
But that didn't keep his teammates from razzing him about three missed free throws late in the game. Gibson erupted for 25 points -- one off his career high. He was at the line with 4:02 remaining after being fouled behind the three-point arc, but uncharacteristically missed all three free throws.
"That's never happened to me ever," Gibson said. "It probably won't happen again. I have to take all the (verbal) blows (his teammates) give me."
He finished 10-of-14 from the field, 4-of-6 from behind the arc.
All-Star forward LeBron James was on the cusp of a triple-double with 22 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.
Cavs point guard Mo Williams, who looked a bit disjointed in Boston, came back strong Thursday with 17 points, seven assists and four rebounds.
