Cavaliers 98, Nets 87

Cavaliers 98, Nets 87
CLEVELAND (AP) - The questions have become repetitive for LeBron James. Right now, he and the Cleveland Cavaliers have all the answers.

James scored 22 points and tagged another performance onto his MVP resume as the Cavaliers set a franchise record with their 58th win of the season, 98-87 over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday night to extend their winning streak to 10 straight.

It seems every time the Cavs take the floor they make history.

James has been asked so many times about Cleveland's recent run of records, that he has begun to sound like a broken one.

"It seems like I've been saying the same speech a lot," said James, who added 11 assists and eight rebounds. "We should all be proud as a franchise. I have no problem answering the same question when we're breaking records and setting records.

"It's unbelievable what we've been able to do, but we have to continue."

Fittingly, on a night when they separated themselves from every other Cavs team, Cleveland had all five starters in double figures for just the second time this season.

"I knew we could make this into something special - and we've been able to do that," James said.

With 11 games left in the regular season, the Cavs already have surpassed the club mark of 57 wins shared by the 1988-89 and 1991-92 teams, when Brad Daugherty, Mark Price and Co. could beat anyone in the Eastern Conference except Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.

Cleveland trailed 82-81 with less than 4 minutes left but closed with a 17-5 run. The Cavs scored on their last 10 possessions and did not commit a turnover in the final 8:55.

They improved to an NBA-best 33-1 at home, 13-1 in March and 18-2 since the All-Star break. They now have a five-game lead over Boston - and Orlando - for the best record in the Eastern Conference, which will give them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Vince Carter scored 20 and Jarvis Hayes 18 for the Nets, who are running out of time to make the playoffs. It won't get any easier for the Nets. Next up: the Los Angeles Lakers, who are battling Cleveland for the league's best record.

Anderson Varejao, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Mo Williams scored 16 apiece and Delonte West had 13 points with nine rebounds for the Cavs.

In the first quarter, James joined Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the only players in NBA history to post 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a season at least four times. Robertson, who once averaged a triple-double for a season, did it six times.

Wizards 95, Bobcats 93

At Washington, Antawn Jamison scored 27 points, Nick Young had 23 and the short-handed Wizards rallied from a 20-point deficit.

Mike James and Andray Blatche added 15 points each for the Wizards, who had only eight players available.

Gerald Wallace led Charlotte with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Spurs 102, Hawks 92

At Atlanta, Tony Parker had 42 points and 10 assists, and San Antonio, playing without Tim Duncan, ended the Hawks' win streak at eight.

Joe Johnson had 30 points as Atlanta lost at home for the first time since March 1.

Pacers 90, Heat 88

At Indianapolis, Danny Granger scored 28 points and the Pacers shut down NBA scoring leader Dwyane Wade to win their 17th straight at home against the Heat.

Wade, averaging nearly 30 points, scored 21 but was just 5-of-24 from the field and missed a shot at the buzzer that would have tied it.

Raptors 115, Bucks 106

At Toronto, Andrea Bargnani scored 23 points, Chris Bosh had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Jose Calderon added 19 points and 11 assists to help host Toronto win consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 22-24.

Richard Jefferson scored 22 points for the Bucks.

76ers 96, Timberwolves 88

At Philadelphia, Thaddeus Young scored 29 points, Andre Miller had 15 and the 76ers won their third straight.

Rodney Carney scored 21 points and Craig Smith had 20 for the Timberwolves.

Clippers 140, Knicks 135, OT

At New York, Mike Taylor had a career-high 35 points, Zach Randolph added 33, and the Clippers snapped a nine-game road losing streak.

Al Thornton scored 21 and Eric Gordon had 19 for Los Angeles.

Al Harrington finished with 38 points for the Knicks, who matched a season high with their sixth straight loss.

Nuggets 101, Hornets 88

At New Orleans, Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points, Chauncey Billups added 26 and Denver snapped the Hornets' three-game win streak.

Chris Paul had 19 points and 13 assists, and David West scored 18 points for New Orleans, which dropped a game behind Denver in the Western Conference standings.

Magic 84, Celtics 82

At Orlando, Fla., Dwight Howard blocked a potential go-ahead layup by Boston's Paul Pierce with 3.8 seconds left, and the Magic clinched their second straight Southeast Division title.

Howard had 24 points and 21 rebounds as the Magic (53-18) bumped Boston (54-19) by percentage points for second in the East behind Cleveland.

Pierce finished with 26 points, and Ray Allen had 11 for the Celtics.

Mavericks 128, Warriors 106

At Dallas, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry each finished with 26 points, and J.J. Barea had 20 as the Mavericks shot 58.5 percent for their highest point total of the season.

Anthony Morrow had 29 points and Monta Ellis scored 22 for the Warriors.

Suns 118, Jazz 114

At Phoenix, Grant Hill scored 26 points, including a tiebreaking jumper in the lane with 31.5 seconds remaining, to lift the Suns to their season-high sixth straight victory.

The win kept the Suns three games behind the Dallas Mavericks in their push for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

Deron Williams led Utah with 25 points and 10 assists.
